Former Guyana Times/Television Guyana (TVG) reporter, Andre Hetsberger, was scheduled to face trial
for rape at the Georgetown High Court.
A 12-member mixed Jury was empanelled to oversee the trial yesterday. According to the indictment Hetsberger had sexual activity with a child on October 17, 2014. The victim was said to be a 13-year-old female.
The accused has since pleaded not guilty to the allegation. The trial is set to start on Wednesday at 9:00 am. The hearings will be conducted in camera before Justice Navindra Singh. The case will be presented by State Prosecutors Michael Shahoud, Narissa Leander and Siand Dhurjon.
Hetsberger was initially charged with two counts of sexual activity with a minor. He was granted $300,000 bail following his initial appearance before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The court heard that the incidents occurred on October 12, and again on October 15, 2014 at Lot 7 Camp Street, Werk-en-Rust Georgetown.
