For the second time in two weeks, two security guards attached to the Lodge Secondary School, were tied up and beaten by armed bandits, who escaped with all of the facility’s computers.
Reports are that two men jumped the school’s fence in the wee hours of yesterday morning and assaulted the guards on duty. They then tied the men and collected the keys for the gate which they opened for an accomplice to drive in.
It is unclear how the bandits entered the building since there were no signs of forced entry.
When this newspaper visited the school yesterday, police ranks had already taken statements from the staff.
The guards, under whose watch the men carted off the school’s computers, were sent to the hospital for medical examination after which they were informed to report to the police station.
According to information received, just two weeks ago, bandits broke into the school and escaped with more than five computers while another set of guards were on duty.
However, they returned yesterday to collect the rest. They packed the computers in the vehicle and drove away, leaving both guards tied in the hut.
This newspaper was unable to ascertain how the men managed to untie themselves and inform the police.
Kaieteur News was told that the intruders also broke into the Deputy Head Mistress’ office. It is unclear what they carried away.
A staff member at the facility said that when he arrived at the school yesterday, he saw one of the night guards on duty and wondered why the man was still there.
Upon further investigation, he learnt that thieves had entered the school and escaped with all the computers.
The school’s Information Technology Lab currently has no computers for the students to use and in just a couple of months, students are expected to sit this subject at the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).
Meanwhile, the teachers were all traumatized. One woman said that the students there are slow learners and they depend on the computers for their studies.
“These people got no heart. They didn’t even leave one for the students,” one of the staff opined.
