After being allegedly chopped by his grandfather more than a week ago, 10-month-old
Omar Jones was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday.
Omar’s mother, Maria Jones, who was also hospitalised, moved in with relatives yesterday where she intends to stay with her child until her husband, Vinod Sanichar, returns from the interior. Sanichar is still unaware of the incident since all efforts by Maria and relatives to locate him have been futile.
Relatives of the mother and child said that they are happy that the duo has returned home since “what they went through wasn’t easy”.
According to reports, Maria and Omar turned up at a neighbour’s house last week, covered in blood accusing her “drunken” father-in-law of dealing several chops to her and the infant. They were taken to the GPHC where they were admitted.
The alleged attacker was later charged and placed before the courts. He was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance at the Wales Court on February 26.
