Dear Editor,
Under the laws of Guyana, the Minister of Communities is not compelled to, but has the authority to dissolve all city and town councils, neighbourhood democratic councils, etc. But the question is why is he choosing not to? Is he choosing to give the boys a stipend up until the last possible day? Would it not be much tidier for these Councillors to leave, have audits done and to allow the various administrations prepare for the newly elected Councillors who will be coming in on March 19th? And the Councillors themselves, do they not have the decency to step down and make way for their successors? Or will they cling on to power until the final hours? Particularly those who are seeking another term? There is need even if it is apparent to be transparent and accountable. Any decisions these Councillors make now should hardly be honoured by the new Councils or the citizenry. When will Guyanese politics mature?
