The police are on the hunt for three armed bandits who, just before 22:00h on Wednesday, robbed a Corentyne businessman and his family of a large quantity of money and jewellery before making good their escape. The masked men were armed with two guns and knife,
Information revealed that businessman Dharmen Ramkisoon, 40, of Lot 339 Train Line Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, was about to close his shop which is situated on the bottom flat of his two storey wood and concrete house when he was accosted by the thieves.
As he was about to close up the shop, one of the gunmen held on to him demanding cash and jewellery. He was badly beaten and forced back into the shop to hand over money. The bandits grabbed two hundred thousand dollars. Not satisfied, they forced the man into his bedroom where he handed over US $300 and a quantity of gold jewellery. The thieves then made good their escape.
Although the yard is well fenced and the house is well grilled, the bandits were still able to carry out the attack.
No one has been arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
