The initiative of the Ministry of Public Telecommunications and Tourism to upgrade operations at all ports of entry in Guyana has seen appreciable progress, especially at the Moleson Creek Ferry Terminal

The initiative includes enhancement of the aesthetics, both physical and systemic.
In collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Tourism Department designed retractable “Welcome” banners and placed them in both the Departure and Arrival sections of the terminal.
Last December, the minibus and taxi drivers were presented with monogrammed t-shirts bearing the new tourism logo: Guyana – South America Undiscovered, the Ministry of Ministry of Public Telecommunications and Tourism said yesterday in a statement.
On Saturday, the Director General of Tourism, Donald Sinclair, participated in a status meeting with the bus and taxi drivers who have now formed themselves into the Moleson Creek Bus and Taxi Drivers Association.
Following elections, the Chairman will be Michael Torrington; Vice Chairman – Devendra Approo; Secretary- Rudolph Deoraj and Treasurer – Nawin Lakhram. In addition, John Boodie, George Davis, Armit Lakhram and Daniel Inniss are the Committee members.
This body will soon determine several administrative matters including membership subscriptions, identification badges, and measures that will improve the drivers’ welfare plus enhance their operations.
“Those present expressed relief that they are now properly organized and able to make orderly representations to visitors to Guyana from or through Suriname, to the Police Force and other authorities, on matters that affect the drivers.”
According to the ministry, together with the Guyana Tourism Authority, it is committed to continuing the work that began in 2015, to train both the drivers and administrative staff in Good Customer Service and Basic Communication techniques, including the learning of Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese.
