City businessman, David Allicock, is of the view that running the affairs of a capital city is more than just
the maintenance of roads and drains, waste disposal and collecting rates and taxes.
He feels that like the Chief Executive Officer of any Corporation, the City Mayor must have a forward vision.
It is with this in mind that he has decided to join a group that he sees as visionary and one that could lead the way in making the capital city the envy of the Caribbean Region and South America.
Allicock is on the Team Benschop ticket, contesting the Charlestown/Albouystown community. He believes that they can revolutionise for the better, the way the city affairs are run.
At first he did not see himself becoming involved in any form of politics although he was inspired by Guyana’s early visionary leaders.
The businessman said that he has been intrigued by politics in Guyana since his early days at Queen College. I admire the leadership, and political savvy of Presidents Burnham, Jagan and Hoyte.
“And although none of them was perfect, I truly respect the contribution made by these three great sons of Guyana’s soil in shaping our nation and invariably our destiny.
“I believe the vision and foresight of these great leaders in their respective right were not passed on to those who succeeded them, and our country’s image has been tarnished to a great extent, and as a result our nation suffered a great deal, internally,” Allicock said.
So when he was asked to join Team Benschop, to be a part of that new vision to modernize Georgetown, and change the status quo, he embraced the opportunity without a second thought.
“I am a pragmatist,” he said. “I am convinced that it would take a person of courage and pragmatism to foster the changes necessary to reform the Georgetown Mayor and City Council.”
And as such, he is convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Guyana needs objective people; people who possess foresight to bring the city, and country back from the brink of disarray and destruction.
“Mark Benshop is a pragmatist too. ,
“I have always admired his practical and down-to-earth approach in seeking justice for the voiceless of our country and his commitment to ultimately transform Guyana’s capital into a modern metropolis,” the businessman stated.
