Special prosecutor in place
When the preliminary inquiry of the Berbice shallow grave murder continued in the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Charlene Artiga, State Prosecutor Latchami Rahaman who is prosecuting the case told the court that the state is instituting new charges of murder against the five accused.
The previous charge of murder against the accused, Aaron Hing called “Natural”; Stayman George, called “Shevin”; Crystal Thomas, called “Cattie”; Senfine Henry, called “Loraine”; Jamie Sinclair, called “Fross” or “Stay”; committed on Dominic Bernard was replaced with a charge of murder contrary to common law.
The new charge read that Aaron Hing and Stayman George on the 14th of October murdered Dominic Bernard while Chrystal Thomas, Senfine Henry and Jamie Sinclair between January 4 and January 6, knowing that Aaron Hing committed the offence of murder did receive, comfort, relieve, maintain, harbour and assist the said Hing.
According to the prosecution, Thomas is in a common-law relationship with Hing, while Henry is Thomas’ mother. Sinclair is a friend.
A missing person report was filed and consequently led to the investigation which revealed that British National, Dominic Bernard, was murdered by his god-brother Hing, after he arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on October 14, 2015.On January 8, Bernard’s decomposed body was found in a shallow grave at Nurney, Corentyne, Berbice, by CID ranks from Georgetown and Berbice. They were acting on an anonymous phone call. The victim was found fully clothed and maimed. A ‘Post Mortem’ revealed that he had sustained a fractured skull, as well as a broken neck.
In the ensuing investigations, British law enforcement collaborated with local police and resulted in Thomas, Henry and Sinclair being arrested and the property of the deceased recovered.
According to reports, Bernard had arrived in Guyana on October 14, last, for a three-week vacation with his god brother, Aaron Hing. He was scheduled to fly back to England on November 5, 2015, but failed to do so.
They are being represented by Attorneys-at-law, Nigel Hughes and Ramesh Rajkumar in association with Shabana Barnwell.
They were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
They were remanded to prison until the 3rd March.
