Jets survive with 67-40 win over Falcons
Retrieve Raiders ensured themselves a semifinal place and head their group with a solid 67-40 win over Victory Valley Royals, while Amelia’s Ward Jets kept their hopes alive with a 75-57 win against GGMC Falcons when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA)/ 104.3 Power FM Radio Mash basketball championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court on Sunday night.
Playing in the opening game the Jets regrouped after losing to the Half Mile Bulls by scoring an emphatic win after leading at varying stages of the game 21-11, 43-26 and 59-44, before cruising home 75-57. They were led to their win by Joel Webster who got 17 points, Javon Nelson returning to the sport with 12 and Allister Webster scoring 11 for the winners. The best players for the Falcons were Quincy Richmond with 12 points and Jamal Gilkes with 11.
In the second game, the Raiders wasted no time in turning back the efforts of the Royals as they pummeled inside with Dwayne Roberts getting 24 points and Keon Cameron 17 and Deron Montrose eight, while for the Royals Trevor Profitt netted nine and Harold Adams eight in the losing effort.
The competition continues on Friday with another double header at the same venue.
