Dear Editor,
1. Freddie you are a sharp columnist whose writings on our beloved Guyana are well received;
2. that you should stay the course is recommended and no doubt you will;
3. but Freddie as much as you are doing a great columnist service, you are equally doing a great disservice by distancing yourself from close encounters and by stand-offishness;
4. it would appear that you have never worked in government and perhaps you have never served on boards and commissions and probably you are afraid
to so serve not fully understanding what such service entails;
5. they also serve who stand and wait, but that standing implies a willingness to be in the mix and here is where I make a direct appeal to you: get involved in government, sit on boards , commissions etc so that you are in a position to make direct contributions.
6. Just do not get angered if your point of view is not acted upon. Remember our old remark that drop by drop does make a hole, to wit, creates change, sets in process enlarged thinking and bit by bit works for the improvement and benefit of society at large.
‘Stop standing in the corner watching all the girls go by’. Gather up yourself, be in the midst of the powers that be, and quietly, forcefully, reasonably, pragmatically, intelligently, diplomatically etc help to guide and straighten out any myopic thinking. You have to be in the in-crowd, mixing it up to see change and more progress.
Be positive and say to yourself “I am doing this for the future generations”. Take my advice Freddie. Get in there and be in a direct position to tidy up short comings.
