A Richmond Village, Essequibo Coast is trying to find answers as to the circumstances surrounding the death of a taxi driver, whose car overturned in a canal after he had apparently skidded off the Reliance Public Road on Sunday night.
The body of Dennis Persaud, 43, was recovered from his car, shortly after 23.00 hrs.
Police said that Persaud, of La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, was driving along the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast, when he lost control of the vehicle which overturned in a canal.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Hospital.
His wife, Lilawattie Persaud, told Kaieteur News that her son, Deon Persaud, received a telephone call from one of his friends informing him of his father’s death.
Mrs. Persaud said she and her relatives immediately went at the accident scene but by then, her husband’s body had already been taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where a doctor pronounced him dead.
A grief-stricken Mrs. Persaud said she is unable to say what caused her husband to lose control of his vehicle.
She said she last saw her husband sometime around 20.00 hrs on Sunday before he left to pick up a passenger.
“He left at seven and returned at eight before venturing out again.”
Persaud operated several businesses in Henrietta and Anna Regina.
This is the third road fatality at Essequibo for the month.
