Number one rated Half Mile Bulls showed their mettle in downing the Amelia’s Ward Jets in a game that could have gone either way, winning 85-76 in the end and the Retrieve Raiders coasted past Block 22 Flames 67-45 as the Linden Amateur Basketball Association/ 104.3 Power FM Radio Mash open basketball tournament began on Saturday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
Playing in the second game the Bulls played to their best in discharging their compact game under pressure.
They took the first quarter 25-21 but the Jets came back firing to edge ahead at half time 39-38 and were in control. Or so it seemed at the end of the third quarter 60-59.
Then the Bulls went on a rampage and with national- guard Terron Welch in fine touch with 32 points in the end, and fellow national Michael Turner getting 22 and inside man Kevin Easton nine they were able to overcome their opponents to win 85-76. The best shoots for the Jets were their forward line of Omally Sampson with a battling 19 points as Joel Webster got 15, Vibert Benjamin 12 and Orin Rose with 10 for the losers.
The other game played earlier was all Raiders as they scored an emphatic 67-45 win over the Block 22 Flames. The Raiders were given this good start through their power forward Dwayne ‘Brown Sugar’ Roberts who led their way with 22 points and national player Keon Cameron shooting in 18 and Alexander Rose penetrating his way to 10 points.
They had dominated by leading throughout with scores of 12-6, 32-14 and 48-29 before the eventual 67-45.
Last night the matches which were not played due to an electrical fault were played at the tournament venue the MSC hard court.
