The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) is extending congratulations to the West Indies U-19 team on their first World Cup title which they captured yesterday when they defeated India by five wickets in the International Cricket Council (ICC) U-19 World Cup 2016 final.
Our boys played particularly well throughout the tournament, exemplifying great team work ethics, and timely individual performances. Throughout the tournament, the players assume the necessary leadership roles with the bat, ball and while in the fielding – taking whatever individual responsibility was required for the progress of the team.
Such a collaborative effort must be recognized and acknowledged, as it epitomizes the characteristics of professionalism that is required by West Indies and regional teams, the board release stated.
We are extremely proud of the attributes demonstrated by our young West Indies Team as they consistently exhibited their expertise in a “We can do It, We must do it and We shall do it manner.” Such burgeoning commitment to West Indies cricket is semblance of the player characteristics of the West Indies dominant teams of yesteryear.
We congratulate this young team on their invaluable accomplishment and encourage the players to continue to advance by building on their exhibited valuable attributes to ensure that the saying “Our Youths are our Future” is illustrated by this crop of players.
The GCB sincerely believes that the time is opportune to make the necessary adjustments to our WICB PCL Regional Tournament to ensure the continued growth development of our young West Indies players. The GCB stands ready to host, integrate and nurture such a promising group of players in a cricket development structure that has proven beneficial to our Guyanese players over the years.
We are prepared to support new initiatives that will once again propel West Indies Cricket to the pinnacle of world cricket, the release concluded.
