Defending champion Jason Ray Khalil (-25) opened the defence of his title with a
comfortable win against a vastly improved Daniel Islam (+7) as play in the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) / Digicel Bounty Farm Ltd- sponsored Handicap Tournament continued, at the Georgetown Club Inc. courts.
Playing in the Open category, Khalil coasted to a comfortable 15-11, 15-14 over Islam, while Nyron Joseph (-20) had to work extremely hard, before securing victory against Stephan Jeffrey (+6) 4-15, 15-12, 15-6.
Regan Pollard (-14) cruised to victory against Anthony Islam (+8) 15-10, 15-11 and Raphael De Groot (-12) held his nerve to win in two close games against Alex Cheeks (+7)15-14, 15-13.
The first major upset of the night occurred when Jonathan Hohenkirk (+7) defeated national player Nicholas Narain (-16) 12-15, 15-11, 15-12 and this was followed by another upset when Ryan Rahaman (+7) defeated former junior national player Stephan Xavier (-4) 15-10, 15-13.
In category A, Gianni Carpenter (-6) easily disposed of Wade Beckles (+12) 15-12, 15-13, while Lucas Jonas (-1) had to overcome a valiant effort by Michael Alphonso (0), before prevailing 13-15, 17-14, 15-10.
Ethan Jonas (-3) dropped a game, before defeating Louis Da Silva (+12) 15-13, 14-15, 15-13 and Demetrius De Abreu (0) dominated Teija Edwards (+12) winning 15-12, 15-13.
