Dear Editor,
Permit me space in your column to express my disgust with an incident which I witness involving a female Police rank, and a Neighbourhood police who are both stationed at the Mahaicony Police Station.
It was on Tuesday,19th February,2016, I was standing at Central Mahaicony awaiting transportation when this police corporal identified by the uniform she wore was passing and started to abuse a neighbourhoood police that was standing in near proximity and appeared to be on duty since she was dressed in her uniform. The distasteful obscenities were so loud it eventually brought the neighbourhood police to tears and several persons.
I thought this to be so disrespectful and embarrassing to such a noble organization like the Guyana Police Force. To crown it off, I was fortunate to be standing on the road one week after this incident happened and overheard this same corporal telling another person how she abused this neighbourhood police(name mentioned) and she has no apology. She went on to say during the conversation that nothing will come out of it even if complaints are made because she is a neighbourhood police and they have no rights.
The sergeant already said that they would push her around until she is frustrated and leave the work. I say to Honourable Minister of Public Security, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan; Minister of Social Protection, Ms.Volda Lawrence, Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud, such matters should not be swept under the carpet.
It warrants urgent attention and your intervention if not for the sake of that neighbourhood police then for the reputation of the honourable organization which that police corporal represented when she abused that rank. How long will you continue to allow ranks of such character and calibre to perform in the offices which are task with the responsibility of maintenance of law and order when they themselves have no self-respect or respect for the laws of our land!
