Dear Editor,
We respond to Sherod Duncan by saying that one can describe the upcoming local government elections as involving Mark Benschop, a man of the people versus Sherod Duncan, a man of pictures.
Mr. Sherod Duncan has finally stepped out of the shadows and pronounced on an issue outside of cleaning up. It is sad that he chose one that has no merit. Team Benschop stands by the integrity of Mark Benschop and the works carried out by the Benschop Foundation which has been operational for over 8 years. These works include, but are certainly not limited to, organizing cleanup campaigns way before May 2015. The Benschop foundation has offered services to hundreds such as foundation computer courses, cosmetology courses and CXC classes. Persons benefitting from these courses come from areas such as Georgetown, Linden, Buxton, Bare Ruth, New Amsterdam, Albion and other parts of the Corentyne. It has also provided wheelchairs and other equipment to many in need. If Mr. Duncan has evidence to the contrary, he should produce it forthwith. However, we believe some pertinent questions must be asked.
Does Mr. Duncan support our call for a comprehensive audit of the city administration? Does Mr. Duncan believe that persons should play a direct role in managing and developing their communities with the help of central government or should central government run the local authorities as well? On February 9th, Mr. Duncan posted to his Facebook, “why would I vote for anyone else in the Local Government Election process than the people who facilitated the very process.” Mr. Duncan needs to clarify this urgently.
It’s either he has no knowledge of how local government is supposed to work or he is simply jumping on a bandwagon and misleading the residents he seeks to represent. We believe the answers to these questions will demonstrate the competency of Mr. Duncan to represent the residents of Georgetown at City Hall. Team Benschop continues to look forward to a healthy debate on issues affecting the city, and encourages Mr. Duncan to use these mediums wisely and explain his plan for the city.
To finish, let me quote Mr. Freddie Kissoon from Kaieteur News letter dated May 25, 2014 directed at Mr. Duncan, “When cowardly law students become lawyers can they really have a good grasp on the difference between right and wrong? I don’t think so. Sheep cannot tell the difference. They never will.”
Ronson Gray
Campaign Manager,
Team Benschop for Mayor.
