LABA calls first meeting with coaches, captains and players at MSC Pavilion today
The Linden Amateur Basketball Association has appointed former national player and coach Abdulla Hamid to spearhead its Coaches and Referees Committee and as such called for a technical meeting to discuss the various aspects of officiating with the clubs, table officials and referees at the Mackenzie Sports Club pavilion this afternoon at 5:00pm.
Hamid will be introduced to the representative of the clubs affiliated to the association by president of the LABA Lawrence Simon as they prepare to participate in the first tournament for this year the LABA/ 104.3 Power FM Mash Open Championship which starts on Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
Secretary of the LABA, Joseph Chapman explained that based on the negative reports of recent from some quarters regarding the standard of officiating, the decision was taken at the Annual General Meeting that there is need to address those reports. In addition Mr. Hamid had offered the association his services to assist in the refereeing and officiating aspects of the game and the association has now taken up that offer.
Hamid will have a team of coaches and referees which will give a report to the association and seek ways to increase and improve the standard of officiating. Hamid will be assisted by referee Ashton Angel (Jr.), coach Kevin Joseph, LABA Organising Secretary Christopher Pollydore and the resource person is FIBA referee Sherwin Henry.
All the clubs have been asked to send their coaches, captains and senior players to this meeting so that issues can be discussed and looked at for the improvement of the game ahead of the start of this new tournament on Friday.
