-faults personnel for delay in distribution
There is no shortage of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) test kits. The Ministry of Public Health has made it clear that an existing challenge is the delay of health personnel uplifting these for their respective health facilities.
This disclosure was amplified yesterday by the Ministry in a statement disseminated to the media. The statement followed on the heels of the utterance of People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Member of Parliament, Joseph Hamilton, that the health sector is currently rationing test kits.
Hamilton was at the time making a presentation in the National Assembly during the first session of the 2016 budget debate.
But those representing the Ministry of Public Health didn’t take Hamilton’s remark lightly.
In its statement, the Ministry noted that the PPP/C Member of Parliament, on the Monday, February 8, 2016 sitting of the National Assembly, stated that “there is currently a countrywide shortage of HIV Test kits.”
But the Ministry contended in its statement yesterday that there is currently a supply of 35,000 HIV Test kits at the Materials Management Bond at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
“There is no shortage of HIV test kits in Guyana.” The Ministry, moreover, faulted personnel from various health facilities for not uplifting the kits in a timely manner.
