Dear Editor,
Thank you for space in your column since according to the wife of another police constable in your column recently it is the only way someone would listen to our concerns. I am also currently based at the Tactical Service Unit at Eve Leary Georgetown under investigation for quite some time now; I am willing to spend my time there so my innocence can be proven.
My problem is I have a number of court matters whereby I stand as evidence in court at my past division, sometime almost every week I would have to travel from TSU via a long distance mini bus at a costly sum. I would fill out the necessary travel imbursement form and have the relevant officers sign it up and take it in to the police finance office in the same compound as TSU. There is where the trouble starts. At TSU when ‘A’ group works one day they are off for ‘B’ group to work the next day and if you happens to be off and want to go home you would have to wait on finance office almost all day to collect that little travel re imbursement, if you choose to drop in the form and collect it on return you are told that time is gone and it was forfeit since you already travelled.
This is not fair I know the money was not forfeit someone collected it; if not why am I not given back the forms I filled out. This nonsense has been going on for far too long and it needs to stop. Someone in authority needs to put things in place so officers travelling on police funds are treated fairly and in a better system rather than have to wait almost a day or being robbed of the benefit. Sometimes it is the only travel money we depend on and barrow because we wanted to travel early and it is heartbroken to hear the Nancy story of forfeit. Again I quote from the officer wife’s appeal to the police force, where else can police constables go for someone to listen to them? Can the relevant authorities please address this situation as early and place a structured system in place for the benefit of other officers who go through the same.
