Kennard’s Memorial Cricket Club of Bust Lot Farm, Corentyne is through to the final of the 2015 Raffik & Sons Construction Service Second Division 20-Over Cricket Competition which was specifically organised by the Berbice Cricket Board for teams in the Lower/Central Corentyne area.
In the semi-final which was played at Port Mourant, they defeated Fyrish by 34 runs.
Choosing to bat first, Kennard’s Memorial was given a start of 78 runs in 10 overs by Karamchand Permaloo and former Berbice Under-19 allrounder Karamchand Ramnarine after which the latter fell for 26. Permaloo continued and he held the innings together as the Fyrish bowler Yuvendra Chinapen and former Berbice Under-19 offspinner Munilall Shiwdyal made inroads into the innings. Permaloo eventually fell for 49 (8 fours) at 110 for 7 and with no other batsmen getting past nine, Kennard’s managed to reach 137 for 9 in their 20-Overs. Chinapen took 3 for 37 from 4 overs.
Fyrish in reply had a bad start, losing their first two wickets for 7 runs with former Berbice Under-19 pacer Junior Blair picking up both of them. Former Berbice Under-19 batsmen Javed Mohamed and Chetram Roopnarine staged a recovery of sorts, putting on 50 between them before Mohamed went for 11.
Roopnarine continued to bat well but he eventually fell for 31 (1 four) and with no other batsman managing to negotiate the wily left arm spinner Ramnarine, they were only able to reach 103 for 8 in their 20-Overs. For Kennard’s, Ramnarine ended with 4 for 20 from 4-Overs and Blair 2 for 18 from 4.
Kennard’s Memorial will meet with defending champions Courtland All Stars in the final from 1:30pm on Sunday at the “Area H” ground, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice. Preceding that game will be the third place playoff between Rose Hall Town and Fyrish.
Musical entertainment will be available and a small fee will be charged at the gate.
