The National Association for Women’s Football (NAFWF) as part of its mandate has organised a Seven-a-Side Tournament themed ‘REVIVAL OF WOMEN’S FOOTBALL’ which is scheduled to be played on February 27-28 at the Tucville ground, starting at 08:00hrs on both days.
The NAFWF which is responsible for the development of Women and Girls football locally is aiming to provide women and girls locally, the opportunity to showcase their ability and to have a chance to be seeded into the National Women’s Team (Lady Jags) in the future, especially with the latest results of the Lady Jags in the CFU Olympic Qualifier and the upcoming CONCACAF Leg of the 2016 Women’s Olympic Qualifiers.
In an effort to achieve some of the above mentioned the NAFWF organised the tournament to highlight the local talent, especially in light of the fact that the current composition of the Lady Jags is littered with foreign-based players representing Guyana with little participation from those resident here.
At this tournament twelve (12) teams will compete for prizes amounting up to two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00).
The teams shortlisted to participate in the competition are: Eagles United FC (G/town), Foxy Ladies FC (West Dem), Little Diva Flames FC (G/town), GDF FC, NA Warriors FC (New Amsterdam, Berbice), West Side Conquerors FC (West Berbice), Kuru Kuru FC (East Bank), Demerara Queens (Linden), McKenzie High School (Linden), Striking Dolls (Bartica), Essequibo Warriors (Essequibo), KwaKwani Strikers (Kwakwani).
Teams will be placed into two (2) groups of six (6) for a round robin stage. The top two (2) teams in each group will advance to the semi finals with the winners progressing to the final.
