A decision not to kill the jaguars was taken after members of the Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met with residents on Wednesday. The animals continue to put the lives of Lima Sands residents at risk. They kill their livestock and other animals.
Residents said the jaguars were spotted again Wednesday night. They are forced to secure their homes by 6:30PM every evening. The jaguars, they claim, have ventured from the savannahs in search of food and due to the prolonged dry spell.
Imprints of the jaguars’ feet were visible in Lima Sands and Mainstay. The endangered animals have since devoured ten goats, three dogs and other domesticated animals including ducks and parrots from residents of Lima Sands and Mainstay.
