Shawn Barrow, who was accused of murdering Kellon Hinds over a ‘vendetta’ last year, yesterday walked
out of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts a free man after he appeared before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
On August 31, last, in East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, it was alleged that Barrow, 23, of Lot 8 East La Penitence, murdered Hinds aka ‘Baige’.
The Magistrate dismissed the matter and granted the accused his freedom on the grounds that seven witnesses testified that he (Barrow) was at Royal Castle at the time of the crime.
According to reports, the vendetta started in June 2004 when Hinds, an East Ruimveldt resident, was robbed of gold jewellery and shot. Sherwyn Barrow, another East Ruimveldt resident, was charged in connection with the attack on Hinds.
The matter was dismissed after the alleged victim declined to give evidence in court.
However in May 2015, Sherwyn was reportedly gunned down in broad daylight while sitting outside a shop in ‘Warlock’, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Last August, police detained Hinds in connection with Sherwyn’s death. Hours after police released him, gunmen walked into an East Ruimveldt yard where he was hanging out and riddled his body with bullets. Shawn, a relative of the slain Sherwyn, was charged with the murder.
Last year, the prosecution file was transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice. Yesterday, however, the court heard that seven witnesses had testified on behalf of the accused that he was at the fast food restaurant Royal Castle at the time of the murder.
The Magistrate granted Barrow his freedom.
