Four secondary schools will contest the third edition of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Inter Secondary School Tape Ball competition organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC).

The contesting schools are based in the Rose Hall Town and Port Mourant areas, the competition will be played as part of the club’s ‘Say No to Drugs, Suicide, Crime and Say Yes to Education and Sports’ campaign.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster remarked that the competition would attract male and female teams from the Lower Corentyne, J.C Chandisingh, Corentyne Comprehensive and Port Mourant Secondary Schools. Players must be 17 years and under, born on or after September 1st, 1999. The main aims of the tournament are to promote positive social messages, to promote cricket as a safe alternative to a life on the road and to celebrate Guyana’s 50th Independence anniversary. The RHTYSC would also be using the tournament to identify new talent for the club’s junior and female teams. Foster also disclosed that the club during 2016, would be hosting numerous cricket tournaments at the Primary and Secondary levels for Under-15, 17, 19, Second Division and female players as it continues its massive cricket development programme aimed at lifting the standard of the game in Berbice.
Foster expressed gratitude to the Management and Staff of GBTI for their continued sponsorship of the tournament while assuring that it would be well organised and achieve all the set objectives.
Manager of the GBTI Port Mourant Branch, Mr. Ghoeblall Mahadeo in remarks said they are pleased to partner with the RHTY&SC once again as it was very impressed with the hosting of the first two tournaments.
GBTI, Mahadeo noted is fully aware of its corporate responsibilities and as such special emphasis is placed on education, sports and youth development. Mahadeo congratulated the club for its outstanding work that targets youths and urged the organisation to uphold the high standards it has set itself in the past.
The top teams in the tournament would win trophies and other prizes, while the outstanding performers would take home trophies and medals.
