Dear Editor,
Please allow me space to comment on a letter written by Anand Dyal and published on January 22 last. I wish to opine that Dyal missed the point of Raphael’s letter.
Blinded by hate and without addressing the substance of what was written by Raphael, Anand Dyal descended into the gutter to destroy the character of the messenger.
Raphael is well known in and out of cricketing circles and in context of the last fifty years of governance in Guyana his character is exemplary. We do not know Dyal and perhaps you should enlighten us with an Editor’s note.
The message is plain, Guyana Cricket is presently without a legal governing body and that needs to change.
The nonentity status of the GCB needs to change, so that our children can participate in cricket and function in a system that is free and fair, in which they can seek redress in case of discrimination or injury to life or limb.
It is unfortunate that Dyal does not see the point in Raphael’s thesis.
Legal challenges are not at issue here, what is at issue is the protracted interval between the permanent solution offered by legislation and implementation of the law. In the USA, Obama Care is the law of the land, however, it has been met by several legal challenges at different levels of government, some of which are still making way through the court.
Similarly the Cricket Administration Act 2014 is the law and the law should be implemented until it is repealed or struck down by legal challenge.
Raphael’s letter allows us to have civil discussion around this matter. Your paper provided space for Dyal to attack the character of the messenger rather than encourage dialogue around the message.
Yours in sport,
