A definitive spell of spin bowling by Cordel Martins guided Hope Secondary to victory over Bygeval while Cummings Lodge, Annadale and La Bonne Intention Secondary Schools also recorded victories when the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) sponsored by Bank’s DIH’ Coco Cola, Rainforest Water and Digicel continued on Monday.
Playing at Fairfield ground Mahaica, Hope Secondary batting first was dismissed for 85 in 20 overs. The only batsman to offer any resistance was Rovin Ramsarup with 27. Doing the damage for Bygeval was Shoaib Shaw who claimed 3-22.
Bygeval in reply squandered a good chance of victory along and the right to represent the Mahaica Zone in the second stage of the competition. Their batsmen were bamboozled by Cordel Martins who bowled with excellent control to take 5-12.
His spell broke the backbone of Bygeval limp run chase. Martins was ably supported by Gopaul Applesammy with 4-18 as Bygeval folded for 70 in 18.2 overs.
Over at the Enterprise ground, Cummings Lodge came up against Plaisance which batted first and found the going tough as they were bowled for 70 in just 10 overs. Trion Hendricks top scored with eleven (11).
Bowling for Cummings Lodge, Heranjan Ori took 5-23 from 3 overs. Cummings Lodge in reply reached 71-2 to win by 8 wickets. Rohit Balkarran and Shamar Payne took one wicket each.
In another East Coast Demerara District match, Annandale took on International Business School (IBE). IBE batting first could only manage 103 off 20.4 overs. Avinash Ramsaywack top scored with 19 while Kendard Amsterdam contributed with 11.
Tameshawar Motiram grabbed 4-15, Ayube Sammy 2-24 and Damuko Nguend 2-25. Annandale in reply reached 104-7 off 26.4 overs. Mike Persaud made 23, while Punishwar Amsook chipped in with 15. Bowling IBE, Damul Motto had 2-16 and Kendard Amsterdam 2-31.
La Bonne Intention (LBI) took on IPE, the latter batting first and could only manage 54 in 19.2 overs. Ravin Singh led with 17. Bowling for LBI, Kumar Persaud snared 5-31 and Nandkumar Krishna 3-22. LBI in response coasted to 56-2 in 7.3 overs. Nandkumar made 23. Bowling for IPE Arvin Singh and Aryan Sookbarran took one wicket apiece.
Hope Secondary will now face Mahaicony Secondary on Friday at the Fairfield ground while in the capital city, Chase Academy takes on St Joseph’s High at Everest ground from 10:00hrs and Linden Foundation play Dora Secondary at Bayroc.
