A number of entries have been received already while a bevy of sponsors are already on board for the Port Mourant Turf Club grand one day horserace meet set for Sunday 7th February at the Club’s entity, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
With over $4M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs in the seven race meet the entries columns are filling up at a fast pace.
The feature event is an open one and is for all horses imported in Guyana and locally bred. The distance is 5F and the winner is set to take home $700,000 and trophy. So far a number of top runners have already entered including Princess she’s not, Plum Plum, Storm Bird, Bigman Bass, Storm Mark and the newly imported American Boss of the Jumbo Jet stable.
The G and lower race over 6.5Ffor for a winning pocket of $300,000 and trophy has the early entries as Rosetta, Chelsea, Birdman, Comprador, Settling Star and Bridle Stone Corner.
The H1 and lower event already has the likes of Midnight Blues, Goldikova, Silver Bell, Amazing Run, Princess Maya, Cat Messiah, Quiet Storm and Monsoon set top compete for the $250,000 and trophy over 6.5 F.
The race for 2 yrs old Guyana Bred animals has such horses as Ready for Romance, She in Control, Touch D Road and Secret thinker among others.
The ‘J’ and Lower race will see the winner taking home $160,000 over 6F and has the likes of Party time, Affinity, Massiquita Dr, Liquid Lion, Red Region and Savion.
K class will see the likes of Royal Stallion, Turn About, Smarty Light and Speed Vision racing for a first prize of $140,000 and trophy over 6F.
The L class event also over 6F for a winning take of $120,000 and trophy will see the likes of Call She Royal, Magaline, Blondie, Royal Progressive and Iron Man among others.
The race for Three-Year-Old maiden horses has a winning pocket of $220,000 also over 5F.
Among the sponsors so far are Banks DIH Limited, Inshan Bacchus Trucking Service, Chester Fried of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice, Anirude Construction, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, KP Jagdeo Construction, Fiesta Guinness Bar, Sunil Chicken outlet of Rose Hall Market, Poonai Pharmacy of Rose Hall Town and Friends of Port Mourant Turf Club among others.
The race will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
