The excitement for ‘Unity Cricket’ at the Providence Stadium is already building with the release of the ‘early bird’ tickets last Saturday afternoon at locations in Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice.
There was a ‘mad rush’ for tickets once they were available and within the first 45 minutes close to 500 tickets were sold.
Fans keen to see the top West Indies t20 players in action under lights from 19:30 hrs in addition to seeing the leading softball players in Guyana, quickly took the first opportunity to purchase tickets.
For five riveting Softball matches including Demerara Girls playing Berbice Girls plus a day of fun for the kids and the t20 affair, tickets cost just $2,000 before Tuesday and $3,000 from then to match day.
“We have sold over 500 tickets in less than 30 minutes and a lot of people have called and booked their tickets after the organizers had promised to have tickets on sale since Tuesday,” said the owner of Tiyo’s Future Store in Anna Catherina and Parika in West Coast Demerara and East Bank Essequibo.
A problem with the shipment and the clearing of the tickets delayed the start of sale by almost one week and fans, especially those in Berbice, will have another reason to travel to Providence on Saturday.
Berbician Narsingh Deonarine, who helped the T&T Red Force retain the Nagico Super50 title on Saturday last by trapping danger man Carlos Braithwaite LBW for 46 and taking two catches, is coming home to play in the Unity Cricket.
The softball 10/10 ‘Open’ final will start at 16:30 hrs before the t20 finale and spectators will be entertained by pulsating music from the party stand and six pretty cheerleaders dancing on two stages beyond the boundary, while Food and beverages will be on sale all day.
The two teams will comprise a mixture of local players and the International stars and the organizers have released the names of the teams and their respective Captains while the team members will be announced on Monday.
Ramnaresh Sarwan will lead the Legacy All Stars and Chris Barnwell is captain of the 007 Warriors.
Ticket locations: GCC Bourda (GT) Tiyo’s Future Store (Anna Catherina & Parika), Shopper’s Pharmacy (Giftland Mall), Lenny’s (Mon Repos East Coast), Debbie’s Bar (E/C), Andrew’s Supermarket (South Ruimveldt), Kester D Music (Charlotte St GT), Big Bs (Rosignol West Berbice), Little Rock Hotel (N/Amsterdam), Poonai’s Pharmacy (Rose Hall Town Corentyne Berbice).
