Horseracing is set to continue on Sunday 7th February when the Port Mourant Turf stages a grand one day horserace meet at the club’s entity, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
Seven races are set for the day with over $4M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs.
The feature event is an open one and is for all horses imported in Guyana and those locally bred. The distance is 5Furlongs and the winner is set to take home $700,000 and trophy. The race for Three-Year-Old maiden horses has a winning pocket of $ 220,000 also over 5F.
There is a race for animals classified G and lower over 6.5Ffor a top prize of $300,000 and trophy.
Animals classified H1 and Lower has at stake a top prize of $250,000 to aim for in another 6.5F event. The ‘J’ and Lower race will see the winner taking home $160,000 over 6F.
The horses classified K and lower will be racing for a first prize of $140,000 and trophy over 6F.
The final event is for animals classified L and Lower also over 6F for a winning take of $120,000 and trophy.
The race will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
Five horses must start a race before third prizes will be paid and seven horses must start before any fourth prize is paid.
