Dear Editor,
Experience shows that no one on earth is perfect, only God is perfect. I make this statement because I cannot understand how so called intelligent politicians can continue to encourage members of the public to demonstrate against progress.
When one attempts to analyze progress one has to look at the situation as a whole. I am looking at the statement that Wales Estate will be closed down for good by year end. While it is true that lots of people will lose their jobs, this is not the end. One has to look at the development of the country as a whole.
Currently there is talk about more companies being given an opportunity to search for oil in Guyana. Also the current oil find will begin to kick off soon. Does this not give anyone an idea that lots of jobs are in the pipe line? So there is great possibility that anyone losing their jobs at Wales Sugar Estate will be able to find a job elsewhere.
Some politicians seem to talk for talk sake without analyzing the logics of their statements. By the statements being made it is clear that the opposition, PPP does not intend to allow this present Government to succeed, and continue holding on to any straw that they feel can bring the Government down or place them in a unsafe position. That is why I am saying no one is perfect and if any politician is serious in making a contribution to our beloved country Guyana, they must be man enough to accept and publicly approve the good things this Government is doing and offer to assist in things that they believe is wrong so that the whole Guyana may benefit. This is the way to go and not waste time picketing and publicly demonstrating. This will not take you anywhere.
I would suggest that since the sugar industry comes under the Ministry of Agriculture that the lands used for planting sugar cane could be now used for agricultural products much needed in the Caribbean. I am not just talking hot air. I personally used to ship pineapple on a large scale to Barbados and Trinidad when the flying fish season comes up in Barbados much lime and lemon, plantain and other vegetables were needed. So there is a definite market in the Caribbean and even further field. When one door is closed several other doors are opened. Stop stupid criticism and come up with constructive suggestions
