With limited time remaining before the Inter County Under-15 cricket competition, the Berbice Cricket
Board was able to secure part sponsorship for a fifty overs inter zone round robin competition for the four geographic areas in Berbice from J Z Mohamed of City Bias of 327 West 36 Street, New York, NY, USA.
J ZEE, as he is popularly known, is a very good friend of Berbice cricket. He is also actively involved with the game in New York. The competition will commence on Saturday January 30, 2015 at venues across the Ancient County with the finals slated for the historic Albion Sports Complex on Saturday February 23, 2016 and will involve the two top teams after the preliminary rounds. The BCB youth selectors will use the tournament to assist in selecting the Berbice team.
In an effort to make sure that the competition is successfully completed, the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association, Albion Cricket Club, Blairmont Cricket Club and Young Warriors Cricket Club have pledged their support so far. Other clubs/associations and businesses are expected to come on board.
The board would like to say thanks to National Communication Network (NCN) for their sponsorship over the years and will soon send a proposal to renew it for the 2016 edition. Gratitude is extended to J Z Mohamed.
This tournament along with the Bobby Deonarine and Tom Gruntzel sponsored Tenelec Inc. Inter Club Under-15 championship contributes significantly to the success of Berbice cricket, not only at the junior level but also at the senior level with recent national senior cricketers Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd being the latest players coming out of these tournaments.
