The 2016 Edition of the Hikers Hockey Club One-Day Hockey Festival and Fun-Day was launched yesterday, during a simple ceremony which was conducted at Antonio’s Grill on Sheriff Street.
Among those present at the occasion were President of the Club Devin Munroe, executive member Kenisha Wills and Stag Beer representative Linden Henry.
Munroe in his remarks said the Festival will be staged on January 31 at the St. Stanislaus Ground on Carifesta Avenue and a number of the country’s best players will be participating in the event.
Ten (10) teams are slated to battle for the top prize of $100,000 and the right to boast of being the best team on the day, while there will be a take away lunch and drinks on sale throughout the day as the club envisages a day where families can come and enjoy a fun-filled occasion.
Munroe stated that the day’s activities will be played in a round robin format with twenty-four minutes alloted to each match.
The President revealed that the ten captains along with the teams were selected during the club’s cocktail event via a transparent round robin selection process.
Wills, who plays as well, said the event should provide an excellent exhibition for hockey fans and following that there will be an after party.
Meanwhile, Henry in his remarks disclosed that Ansa Mcal was happy to be a part of the event and urged persons to come out with their families and support the event.
Among the other sponsors to be on board are: Camex, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), 704 Sports Bar, Antonio’s Grille and previous winners of the 2014 edition Jai’s Signs.
The day’s action will commence at 10:00hrs.
