An impressive all round performance from Captain Sachin Singh led Charlestown Secondary to victory
over Lodge Secondary in the final of the South Georgetown Zone as the 2015/16 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary Schools Cricket League (NSSCL) sponsored by Bank’s DIH Ltd’s Coco Cola, Rainforest Water and Digicel resumed across the country.
Playing at the Everest ground, Lodge Secondary were skittled for 92 in 20.3 overs, after they decided to bat. Shamar Smith and Anthony Smith offered resistance scoring 27 and 23 respectively. Qumar Torrington claimed 3-9; Sachin Singh 2-10 and Jamal Michael 2-14.
Charlestown Secondary needed to score at just over 3 runs per over to secure victory and a chance to represent South Georgetown in the next stage of the NSSCL competition. Their batsmen did not disappoint as they completed the chase in the 19th over led by Captain Singh who finished on 46 not out, stroking six fours in the process. Negusa Walter supported with 21; Shamar Smith had 2/26.
Charlestown Secondary will now face East Georgetown champions St. Joseph’s High on January 27 at Everest. On Wednesday Bygeval crushed Ann’s Grove by 10 wickets while Hope defeated Lancaster by 55 runs in the Mahaica Zone.
Playing at Fairfield, Ann’s Grove were bowled out for a paltry 38 in 12 overs, batting first. Bygeval Secondary responded with 41 without loss in three overs; Ceresy David scoring 20.
Hope Secondary scored 171-7, batting first. Rovin Ramsarup struck four fours in a top score of 52 while Amor Persaud made 38. Pooran Mangal took 3-28.
In reply, the Lancaster Secondary were dismissed for 106 in 22 overs. Bhootesh Persaud got 27 as Gopaul Applesammy had excellent figures of 5-20 while Hemchand Boodhoo claimed 3-9.
