Dear Editor,
I read an article which was published in the Kaieteur Newspaper dated Tuesday 22nd December, 2015. Under the headline “Are we going to wait until this man kills this woman”. I was very much surprised at the Police Force in G Division. For no action has been taken against this to date. He resides in Pomona Housing Scheme not far from the Aurora Secondary School; that husband is not a human being, but an animal. For instance, his wife was physically and verbally abused by him on two different occasions; 6th July, 2015 and 16th October, 2015. This is a situation where the victim obtained two medical certificates from the Suddie Hospital in Essequibo. And most obnoxioiusly husband boasts; “No Police cannot arrest him, because money rule the world”
I can recall some time ago that same raped his neighbor’s daughter an Amerindian teen. However that matter was reported at the Aurora Police Station. No arrest was made, money rules the world again. The man’s father who resides in Huis’t Dieren, Essequibo Coast, went and begged the teen’s parents saying that he is willing to make a settlement. However, the matter was settled in which the man’s father paid the teen’s parents a sum of two hundred thousand dollars. The poor Amerindian parents had no other option. I’m calling on the Police Commission, Seelall Persaud, and the commander in charge of ‘G’ Division to investigate and bring some justice to the victim. I will be pleased if the Violence Against Women’s Group and Red Thread Organization look into this matter. I think this is the appropriate time for the Violence Against Women’s Group and Red Thread Organization to respond to our Guyanese women who’s calling out for urgent help.
