A man wanted for stabbing another in New Amsterdam on Saturday has surrendered to the police.
Mark Bender, called ‘Tall Man’, of Lot 54 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, turned himself over to the police yesterday.
He is wanted for wounding Dwayne De Jonge, called “Buda,” 27, of 229 M&TC Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday night outside the Wah Lin Restaurant at Lot 49 Stanleytown. It reportedly stemmed from a dispute the two men had some weeks ago over a woman. Bender had reportedly injured one of De Jonge’s friends during that brawl.
On Saturday, De Jonge ventured to the Stanleytown area to purchase some food when he encountered Bender. An argument ensued and Bender reportedly stabbed De Jonge.
The injured man attempted to run, but fell and Bender then stabbed him repeatedly.
De Jonge got up and entered a nearby shop before collapsing.
He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He was subsequently transferred to the ICU of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he received further medical attention.
Information reaching the media is that one of the wounds pierced the liver and there was also injury to the lung.
He remains in a critical condition in the ICU of the GHPC.
