The branded airplanes were unveiled at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport a little after 07:30 hrs. The airline partnered with the government of Guyana to brand three planes from its fleet of aircraft in commemorating the country’s 50th Jubilee anniversary.
The logo is of a ‘roaring jaguar’ which represents Guyana- ‘Land of the Jaguar,’ as a golden nation moving forward to establish itself in the countries of the world.
The Text ‘50’ is symbolical to 50 years of Independence and is bordered by the colours of the Golden Arrowhead- Guyana’s National Flag.
The unveiling was done during a simple ceremony at the airport. In attendance were CAL’s Chairman, Philip Marshall; First Lady, Sandra Granger; and Minister within the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry among others.
First Lady Sandra Granger said that yesterday’s event was symbolic, that it gave her great pleasure to witness the arrival of the first of three Caribbean Airlines aircraft bearing the logo for celebration of Guyana’s 50th Independence anniversary.
With 600 weekly flights and 19 destinations, this newspaper was told that the move made by CAL to have three of its planes branded with the country’s logo will certainly be beneficial to Guyana in terms of recognition.
“I know that this logo will be seen in international airports in North America and around the Caribbean. Last year we celebrated 100 years of aviation in Guyana and a few years earlier Caribbean Airlines celebrated its own 70 years of service to our region, many years of which, has seen faithful service to this country and its people,” the First Lady said.
“We would like to thank Caribbean Airlines for recognizing the value of this partnership and join with our people of Guyana in commemorating this important event.”
CAL’s Chairman, Philip Marshall, said that since 2007 the Government of Guyana and the airline enjoyed a very good relationship.
According to the Chairman, CAL has an average of six daily flights and carries over 350,000 passengers to and from Guyana annually. “Our Guyana station is one of the airline’s top performers with an impressive on-time performance record.”
He explained that the airline’s team of reservation; maintenance and engineering; sales and airport employees are Guyanese who work diligently to keep the country’s flag flying high.
Apart from the logo, the airline’s partnership also has a travel component, whereby the airline agreed to airlift to Guyana, and free of cost, certain items, including memorabilia and souvenirs that the National Commemorative Commission would require to purchase outside of Guyana for the celebration.
