Romello Crawford made it two wins in two weeks when he won the Benjamin Bakery 40-mile Open cycle road race held last Sunday in Berbice.
Crawford, who won the season opening 50th Independence Anniversary event held on Sunday 3rd in Berbice, rode away with the inaugural event in a time of one hour, thirty-two, forty-seven point four-seven seconds (1:32:47:47).
Crawford rode home ahead of Alanzo Ambrose with Paul DeNoberga, Junior Niles, Jebon Crawford and Andrew Hicks taking the top six spots.
The race, which was organised by the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC), peddled off from outside of Benjamin Bakery at Chesney Village, Corentyne and proceeded to Number 43Village before turning back to its point of origin.
As the riders were sent on their way the ever improving Andrew Hicks, took the initiative and went out early as he was initially joined by Crawford Dueraj Guabarran and Alanzo Ambrose.
They were soon joined by Paul DeNoberga, Junior Niles, Christopher Griffith, Dwayne DeAbreu and Jebon Crawford as they continued the battle for supremacy along the Corentyne highway.
The see-saw battle continue on the down ward journey; however it was Romello Crawford that was able to out sprint Ambrose in a two man battle to take the top spot, as the others finished in a bunch a little behind.
Romello Crawford also took away the award in the junior category with Hicks second and Dueraj Guabarran third. The sprint prizes went to Romello Crawford with three, Andrew Hicks also with three, while there was one apiece for Alanzo Ambrose, Paul DeNoberga, Junior Niles and Jebon Crawford.
Among the FACC riders, overseas based Wilbert Benjamin rode home first ahead of sibling Gary Benjamin with Curtis Dey third.
Among the U-16 riders Zamal Khan crossed the finishing line ahead of Kerri Collins and Chamsehwar Ghanie.
The event, which was sponsored by The Popular Benjamin Bakery of Buxton, was coordinated by Randolph Roberts.
