(ttcb.co.tt) The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force stayed unbeaten in the NAGICO Super50 tournament with a comfortable seven wicket win over Jamaica Scorpions at Shaw Park, Tobago.
Man-of-the-Match, Evin Lewis stroked an unbeaten 102 before cramps force him to retire hurt as the Red Force closed on 177 for three from 38.5 overs to clinch victory, after Jamaica were dismissed for 176 from 47.4 overs. Off-spinners Jon Russ Jaggesar and Narsingh Deonarine did the damage, taking four for 32 and three for 34 respectively for the hosts.
The youthful and relatively inexperienced Red Force squad continues to repay the faith invested by the national selectors with a series of impressive performances. Guyanese import Deonarine who was acquired by the Red Force in a trade with the Leeward Islands Hurricanes dismantled the Jamaican top order. He accounted for Scorpions captain John Campbell (17), Jermaine Blackwood (10) and Andre McCarthy (6).
Jaggesar playing in only his third List A match for the Red Force continued to perform like a veteran, making easy work of the tourists’ lower order. The 29-year-old ensured that there was no rearguard fight back by the Jamaicans with an expert spell of spin bowling. He capped off an outstanding performance in the field by running out Devon Thomas who top scored with 70 runs for the visitors.
Opening batsman Lewis then blasted the Red Force to victory with his maiden List A hundred. His century came off 100 balls and featured eight boundaries and six towering sixes. Kyle Hope was the perfect foil to Lewis’ aggression and was eventually dismissed for 43, caught by Damion Jacobs off McCarthy’s bowling, leaving it to Yannick Ottley (10 not out) and Deonarine (8 not out) to see the Red Force to victory.
