Dear Editor,
The new school term has begun. I must thank you for high lightening what the Hosororo Primary School administration is doing with parent’s money. While it may be true that the Minister of Education would like every public school to have an active P.T.A body. I think that special emphasis should be in place on the manner in which the Hosororo Primary School head teacher is administrating the affairs of the school.
Let me start by saying that she has been using the office as the head teacher in a conceited and dictatorial manner, and using the Regional Education Officer’s name to assist in her to intimidate and dictate for the P.T.A executive committee and consequently open the flood gate for the many wrong things that her involved under her watchful eyes. e.g.
1. The treasurer for the school feeing program is not purchasing greens and fruits from the parents who are farmers, living in the community and have children attending the school, but is purchasing these items from Georgetown in large quantity to supply both the Hosororo Primary School and wauna Primary School.
2. A canteen was established five years ago to help sustain the school kitchen by the government with a total of $400.000. That canteen is now running $50.000 and is selling food twice a week to the children at four hundred dollars ($4.00) per box whereas the school kitchen ought to be cooking good food for the children.
3. Each school term the teacher are demanding that each parents give $1.000 to the school to purchase ink for the school printer, and two hundred dollar ($2.00) each month to pay for the cleaning of the school toilet and the head teacher office with an additional $400 for other miscellaneous work.
When you total up the amount that the 350 parents which have children attending the school it is $2,100.000, just to sustain the school, not including Christmas party, and the Mashamani celebration. Is this the policy of the government that teacher must exploit parents? While on the other hand, the head teacher is using her office to hinder the P.T.A from putting mechanisms in place which will be able to sustain and develop the welfare of the school and also bring a closer relationship between the school and home.
Since 2014, complaints were made to the Department of Education in the region, and also the regional administration concerning what is taking place within the school system including the letter that was sent to the Minister of Education with seventy six parents name attached, seeking his intervention. But it seems as though all these complaints fell on deft ears. It is not right to exploit the poor and unlearn Amerindian people.
It is always right to do the right thing. It is never wrong to expose wrong especially specific wrongs. No apology is needed for doing the right thing. So am asking for you to do the right thing, that the Minister of Education, will be able to do the right thing. Evil will prevail when good people see and choose not to do that which is right.
