Nineteen years and counting, agricultural tool giants, Farfan and Mendes Ltd. is maintaining its support of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Under-15 cricket team branded Farfan & Mendes, the investment
worth $240,000.
Branch manager at its Urquart Street location, Mr. Lawrence Mingo, handed over the sponsorship cheque to the club’s Executive and member of its Cricket Development Committee, Mr. Mark Papannah, earlier this week.
Papannah stated that the company has been sponsoring the RHT Farfan and Mendes team since 1997 and over that period of time it has won four Berbice tournaments and is waiting to contest another final, the 2015 Tenelec tournament, against Blairmont.
The team have produced over 20 national junior players for Guyana including Assad and Abdel Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Shawn Perriera, Murphy LaRose, Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair and Plaffina Millington and a total of 72 for Berbice.
The club, Papannah stated, also won four Guyana Club of the Year awards during the course of Farfan & Mendes’ sponsorship, while the members of the Farfan and Mendes Under-15 team have also completed over 600 personal/community outreach programmes under the name of the sponsorship since 1997.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster in an invited comment, noted that the sponsorship of the U-15 team is unique and special as it is on the verge of 20 years, a period unheard of in the sponsorship of sports in Guyana.
Foster attributes this to an unmatched record of maintaining the trust and support of sponsors based on the club’s activities and achievements along with its honesty, hard work, visionary leadership and remarkable record of fulfilling its commitments.
Special mention was made of Mrs. June Mendes, Amanda Richards, Andrew Mendes, Mrs. Barker and Onai Vasconcellos of the company for their cooperation over the years. Farfan and Mendes every year also co-sponsor a number of other club programmes.
Marketing Executive of the Company, Onai Vasconcellos stated it was a special privilege to be associated with Guyana’s leading youth and sports organization and stated that the Farfan and Mendes Ltd logo and brand has been well represented over the years by the Under 15 team. He congratulated the club on the announcement of its national award and expressed confidence that they would uphold the high standards it has set itself over the years. The RHT Farfan and Mendes Under-15 team in 2016 would be captained by Chanderpaul Govinda with Vijay Gopilall as his deputy, while Collis Butts will be the coach.
The team would also be involved in 40 personal/community programmes including the construction of a 16 feet x 40 feet concrete cricket pitch in the Area ‘H’ ground.
