Dear Editor,
An unfortunate error appeared in Kaieteur News on January 12, 2016 written by Yannason Duncan, titled “Free Internet looms for Essequibo”. It included misleading information about the eGovernment Unit providing free Internet access to homes in Essequibo. I would like to inform you that the eGovernment Unit is in the process of identifying communities across the country in which to locate public ICT hubs. These public ICT hubs are meant to assist in bridging the digital divide by providing free access for those citizens without computers and Internet connections. The old Charity hospital is being considered as a potential site for a community ICT hub on the Essequibo Coast. The eGovernment Unit wishes to correct the misinformation that it will be providing free Internet to homes on the Essequibo Coast.
