Dear Editor,
I read in various sections of the media that explosive batsman Jonathan Foo should have been included in the Guyana Jaguars NAGICO Super50 squad.
I follow my cricket closely and must commend the selectors and the Guyana Cricket Board for their recent success at all levels but…
Mr. Foo performed credible with the bat and if performance in the recent local Franchise League was used, he should have been selected; at least in front of non-performers.
However, I recently learnt that Mr. Foo was an Academy player contracted by the Guyana Cricket Board and he abandoned his contract last year without giving a reason. He simply did not turn up for practice.
I also learnt that the last time Mr. Foo was selected in the NAGICO Super50 squad, he was ill for the entire tournament, “home sick” it was described to be.
Editor, I fully support the notion that players should be selected on performance but commitment, fitness, discipline and working as a team must also be components to complete a player’s right to selection.
I am sure the selectors of our national squad have an unenviable task but on this one, I do support their final 14.
Mr. Jonathan Foo needs to show commitment.
Yours sincerely,
Anand Dyal
