Dear Sir,
In extending a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Progressive New Year; filled with the blessing of the Eternal and Everlasting Father; God Almighty”, it’s my sincere desire that the recently elected executive of the Guyana Football Federation, which to date has not extended its best wishes for the New Year, publicly to the sport’s various stakeholders, but in the electronic age of emailing, probably this was done. Unlike my time within Georgetown, Christmas Cards were delivered to Affiliates, Referees Association and the GFF.
Meanwhile, for 2016 mistakes of the past (last year) are not repeated, more so, in relation to associations hosting end of the year tournaments, suffice it to say that it must be included in the Annual Calendar of Activities, which must be submitted to the GFF within a specific time-frame. Since in further “Developing and Promoting, the sport of Association Football”, remains compatible with “coordinating various competitions/tournaments, within the respective divisions”.
Would it be prudent to have absolutely nothing, or a token few then year-end, it’s all about money? While the paying public is shortchanged with quality play! That aside, once again the “clarion call” for Elite League players to be included as loan players, for the various clubs domestically, in the respective associations; whereas, i.e. a sponsored club, in pursuit of winning and can afford recruiting overseas based players, can go that route without breaching any rules. And locally, Elite League players are relegated to “glorified onlookers”. Finally, “fielding an ineligible player” as what had occurred with Mahaica Determinators, in the recently concluded EBFA/Stag Beer Super XVI KO, wherein the player, who is on the roster of Monedderlust, an Elite League Club, played in the semifinals. With a “written protest” being submitted, Mahaica lost by default.
Did it occur elsewhere and a fine was instituted, which in the process, comprising the integrity of the sport’s administration! As a consequence the Determinators should have been debarred from further participation with Victoria Kings automatically being awarded the third place.
With the fourth place prize money in the coffers of the organiser, maybe as an incentive the Kings could have played the losing quarterfinalist that Mahaica had defeated, for a 60-40% split, of the fourth place prize money.
Interestingly, had the Kings lost and subsequently filed a protest or played under protest, what would have been the organisers’ response? Editor, this is why it’s extremely important for debriefing, prior to the commencement. By the way was “levy fees” imposed, or was there a waiver?
Nevertheless, my congratulations to the winners, to the losers, better luck next time around, to the defaulters and compromisers of the sport’s integrity administratively. “For Good of the Game and Love of the World, Fair Play Please, Always”!
Lester Sealey.
