The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) held its first general council meeting following the election of the executive committee in December. The meeting which was held at the Guysuco Training Centre Hostel, Port Mourant, Berbice, was chaired by newly elected President Levi Nedd.
A release for Public Relations Officer (PRO) Samuel White informed that during the meeting a number of initiatives were taken and decisions made. Members also looked at the registration of teams/clubs, during which time 10 senior male teams were registered, four junior males and six females.
One of the main agenda items was the formulation of a mission statement for the BVA for the year 2016.
Planning of outreach programmes to Orealla, Black Bush and other remote areas were also discussed. Formation of a referee’s commission which will select a pool of officials; organised training and development for these officials were also discussed with Mr. Afraaz Hussain being elected to head the referees’ commission.
A coach’s commission which will be chaired by Levi Nedd was also put in place.
A five man selection committee was put in place to be headed by President Nedd and also includes Afraz Hussain, Udhisther Seelochan, Rashaad Razak and Krishen Persaud of Orealla.
A comprehensive needs analysis for the BVA was also looked at with the construction of a roof over the Port Mourant all weather court being the main initiative.
During the meeting former President Gregory Rambarran handed over a number of equipment and periodicals he had in his possession to the BVA. Rambarran was also sworn in as an Ex-Officio member.
The Association has also drawn up plans for the year in keeping with its motto: – “Committed to promoting and developing Volleyball in Berbice”
