sports the pictorial portrait of several of Guyana’s top boxers. The list of those pugilists deserving of the accolade is quite extensive and according to the man behind the initiative, Michael Benjamin, some of the deserving pugilists are still to be mounted, not because they have not made the cut, but because of the paucity of adequate funding.
Yesterday morning, business conglomerate, Ansa McAl, handed over a check of a sizeable sum to facilitate the progression of the initiative. Businessman, Lloyd Grant, has been integral in fashioning the framework for the mounting of the portraits and he received the requisite check from PRO (Ansa McAl), Darshanie Yussuf, at their Beterverwagting office yesterday morning.
Mr. Benjamin witnessed the handing over and expressed appreciation to Ms Yussuf and the executive of Ansa McAl. The former boxing champion also visited Mike’s Pharmacy in Bel Air where the proprietor, Lakhram Singh, handed over the cheque to facilitate the mounting of Gwendolyn O’Neil’s portrait. This will be done very soon along with those of boxing stalwarts, the late, Patrick Forde, Lennox Beckles and Lennox Blackmore.
Mr. Benjamin is also in discussions with President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Peter Abdool, in respect to the compilation of a reputable group that will discuss the installation of future hall of famers.
