Dear Editor,
Reference is made to a letter by Sahadeo Bates titled ‘ Airport and internet blues’
The behavior of the “poorly dressed young men” at the Timehri airport is a well designed strategy to rob returning Guyanese and visitors. The unsolicited help to put suitcases in the vehicle, presents an opportunity for them to count the number of cases, estimate their weight and speculate on the contents. The constant pleas for more money are aimed at getting you to open your wallet or purse repeatedly, so the contents can be scrutinized. “The in your face aggression” is a test of your temperament. Are you “easy prey’? Someone who should be followed and robbed as you stop at your destination. Is your driver part of the conspiracy?
