City Magistrate Fabayo Azore remanded a 28-year-old gold miner to prison yesterday for the Boxing
Day murder of Ryan Simon.
Appearing in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday was Elvis Felix. The killing allegedly occurred in the Pakaraimas.
Felix, a father of two, will make his next court appearance on Thursday before the Chief Magistrate.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Simone Payne, told the court that the accused and the victim were known to each other. She said that on December 26, the two had a misunderstanding which led to a scuffle. Payne said that the accused left the scene and later returned with a cutlass and dealt Simon several chops to the head.
The Prosecutor stated that the accused was arrested in Mahdia and he handed over the murder weapon to the police.
According to reports, Felix had accused the now dead man of “talking his name”. It was reported that the suspect became angry, armed himself with a cutlass and fatally chopped Simon.
