With the highly anticipated softball and hardball Cricket Festival scheduled for the Guyana National Stadium on Saturday January 30, 2016 fast approaching, Berbice has appointed veteran inter county and current Regal Masters captain Troy Kippins to lead their team against Demerara in a feature inter county game. Even though Berbice have not quite shortlisted their team, it is expected that prolific batsmen Eon Abel, Rudolph Baker and Khemraj Sumair will lead the batting. Other players of caliber that are expected to be part of the squad are Jagga Bhoj, Verapen Moonsammy, Anthony Ameerally, Subramani Mangali, Rampersaud Ramcharitar, Richard Kellowan, Randolph Latcha and Georgetown based Ricky Deonarine and Anil Beharry.
Essequibo softball team are also onboard, making the softball competition a truly national event. The day of fun and frolic for the entire family, which includes a fun park for children, is being organised by Legacy and 007 Promotions’, who have collaborated with corporate sponsors, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the Guyana Foodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA).
The event promises to a high-intensity one in front an anticipated capacity crowd.
Essequibo confirmed their participation in the Open 10/10 category, which also includes Karibee Boyz from Berbice, Wolf’s Warriors of West Demerara and Regal of Georgetown. A recent release from Ricky Deonarine, Vice President of the GFSCA stated that an entire Demerara team could have being selected from Wolf Warriors and Regal players but some very good players would have been left out. As a result, the organizers decided that both teams will be representing Demerara.(
The final will played under lights preceding the feature event, a T20 contest involving some of the best players in the Caribbean. The winner of the softball Open final will battle for $500,000 and a trophy. Demerara will face off with Karibee girls from Berbice in a female game, while Berbice Masters will take on Demerara Masters. (Tickets will go on sale from the middle of January.
