The more things change the more they remain the same, is a popular saying that means just that. The people of Guyana changed the year but many things still persist. The murders have reached alarming proportions after just one day.
There will be two more before the year is one month old. All will be alcohol-induced.

The pace will quicken as the government goes after people fingered in corruption. Suddenly there will be a mad transfer of assets.
But what will be surprising is the pace of the court proceedings. This will cause the society to conclude that the government did waste time and money.

A prominent businessman is going to find himself in a prickly situation. He owed money and there are some people who do not take kindly to being owed. So early in the New Year the society will wake up to gunfire, the kind that is reserved for battlefields.
