Town Clerk of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, (M&CC) Royston King, has outlined a six-point strategic plan for the Municipality, for 2016.
During a meeting with senior officers of the Council, last week, the Town Clerk lauded the senior officers for their cooperation and hard work in 2015. He encouraged them to continue delivering service of excellence.
As part of the six-point plan, King said that a special elite squad will be established in the City Constabulary Department to lend support to the Guyana Police Force.
This necessitates that the City Constabulary officers be exposed to local and overseas training. It further demands that the requisite tools, equipment and vehicles be made available so that the operation of the elite unit is effective.
King also noted that special emphasis would be placed on securing the integrity of the environment through continuous cleaning of our drains and canals.
Also, King said that more green spaces would be created in communities for the children and elderly to have recreational time.
In addition, the Investigative Unit of the City Treasurer’s Department is expected to play a major role in engaging citizens on taxes and other financial issues.
King further spoke of having the City Engineer’s Department restructured in a manner that officials could lend more technical support to citizens desirous of building homes.
He said that a new International Relations Department would be established with the aim of enhancing sister city relationships and building close alliances with other Municipalities in the Caribbean and further afield.
Speaking specifically about his Department, the Town Clerk said that it will be restructured to ensure it is more open to the public and services are more readily available to look into complaints by citizens.
Overall, King said the focus of the Municipality is to improve its services to the citizens of Georgetown.
Meanwhile City Mayor, Hamilton Green, in his New Year’s message, reassured that the Council will continue the various restoration projects in every facet of Municipal affairs to provide a more efficient service in critical areas.
“Many of you would have observed a radical change in the City’s aesthetics. This is a result of meaningful co-operation, synergies of resources and effective public private partnerships. I am cognizant that change is not easily embraced by all, especially when persons have to alter or change old habits and activities that they have inculcated and which has become a way of life,” Green said.
The Mayor said that the Council is on a mission, which must and will be accomplished. “A mission to make Georgetown the cleanest greenest City in the Caribbean…Therefore, we must continue the work we have started to ensure Georgetown is restored to its former Glory,” Green added.
